Aldborough Hall Farm Beer Festival 2008

The Bands

  The Julian Tulk Band

Friday 6.45pm – 8.30pm

The lush grooves and epic guitar pop of the Julian Tulk Band are set to take the live scene by storm with their new album “SHINE MY BROTHER, MY GHOST, MY BROTHER”.

Having spent the last year working on their debut release THE JULIAN TULK BAND are now looking to move forward quickly, showing the world what they have to offer. Having played supporting slots for the likes of Patty Plinko and Supergrass and venues such as the London Forum and Scala, they have already shown that they’ve got what it takes to perform up there with the best.  After trying a couple of different line-ups over the years, they have now finally formed and gelled through a mutual love of playing great & interesting music and having good times, creating songs that are sometimes inspired by less fortunate events. Their live sound can be described as a toxic blend of blues, folk and alternative pop. These guys always perform professionally and impeccably, but most importantly – earnestly; breaking snappy rhythms with soft melody and soaring vocals.

We have one complaint about this CD; there just isn't enough enough if it. The blues-tinted, soaring melodies deliver a rare and masterful blend of emotion and integrity. With guitars twanging freshly in your ears, Tulk's voice holds your attention with a gentle but vice-like grip. The musicianship is truly awesome, and the production is next level. Think City And Colour gone pop. This is contemporary folk at its finest, begging the question: is this town big enough for Julian Tulk AND Frank Turner?   9/10”  Rock Sound (January 2010)

“The Julian Tulk Band take a beautiful melody and gives it a graceful and ragged edge. The staccato licks and driving drums giving the song the right amount of power and might, whilst Tulk’s glorious vocals deliver the melody at ease and with emotion. Fantastic stuff…"   www.subbacultcha.com“The Julian Tulk Band, Strong Level Road, Fantastic 10/10 ...” BBC Radio Berkshire.

The Earnshaws

Friday 9pm – 10.45pm

As we said when we first started up The Earnshaws, we want to be two bands at once - a covers band for live venues and weddings, birthdays and bah mizvahs and an original band dishing out lively slices of indie rock for your delectation. The Earnshaws Review From Stanford Fest "Only having formed 7 months ago, the Earnshaws created a riot whilst belting out their indie inspired tunes under the scorching summer sun. Who would have thought these rock-stars are in fact teachers from the William Edward’s School inGrays. All I want to know is why weren’t my teachers like that when I was at school?!"
Festivals of 2009
Here's an update on our activities in the last couple of months. After the fantastic first gig we got straight into preparations for the Stanford Music Festival. We had an audition gig that went off with a real bang, so many of you guys came to see us it was brilliant. We were very nervous as we were on first, but the crowd and venue's reaction to us was so positive it really gave us a boost!
We went down so well that the venue invited us back to play a fundraiser for the festival and once again we had loads of people turn up! A later slot for us meant we could relax and really get into it.
So the festival season rolled around and we played two of them. The South Ockendon festival and Stanford Festival. The South Ockendon Fest was in Dilkes Park, and after several bands of varying styles and abilities we got to play on the wobbly stage.

Onto Stanford Festival and what a day! Great atmosphere, great bands and the crowd outdid themselves! We even enlisted the help of the fabulous Dancing Dave, and he soon had the youngsters in the crowd giving it 'the finger whirl' and 'two handed point' dance.

The Earnshaws are:

Joe Kimmings - Lead Vocals/Keys
Louis Bonning - Rhythm Guitar/Vocals
Matt Hogg - Lead Guitar/Vocals
Steve Tagg - Bass/Vocals
