The Ha’penny Brewing Company Limited, operating out of the Cuckoo Hall Brewery in Aldborough Hatch, Essex is run by Chris Penny and Gavin Happé, two craft brewing, Real Ale enthusiasts, members of CAMRA and the Craft Brewing Association, with more than a little help from Gavin’s dad, Lee. Brewing since 2003, we have developed a range of flavoursome and unique ales, for you, our prospective and discerning customer, to sup and enjoy at your leisure. We have exacting standards, and use only the finest, traditionally malted barley, hops and yeast to produce beers of uncompromising and unsurpassed quality on a small scale. Our hops are sourced from Kent and our malted barley is from both Warminster and French & Jupp's Maltings, for maximum quality and traceability. In February of 2008 we decided that Aldborough Hall Farm, one of the last corners of rural calm on the East London – Essex border, with its giant willow tree and pond for the geese, was the perfect location to establish Greater London's newest brewery. Having leased a former stable block, previously used as a commercial pottery, and a much older use as a brew and then beer house for the old Aldborough Hall Estate, works of loving restoration lasting 18 months prepared the way for the installation of our 5.5 barrel brewery in Spring and Summer 2009. The Cuckoo Hall Brewery is named after a safe-house once used by local Highwayman Dick Turpin, which stands just a few yards from the brewery, and our ales are proudly named for the great, the good, the notorious and the legendary of the City of London.
